First North American ski areas certified!

Traditionally North American ski areas use the term skiable acres (or hectares) in order to tell skiers about how big they are. Since this figure is almost unheard of in Europe, skiers from the old world don't really get an idea of how big a ski area actually is when they hear it. For comparison they refer to a figure that every ski area uses: the number of lifts. However, this means a disadvantage for American resorts because over there fewer lifts usually serve a greater variety of different runs. That's the reason why three very large American ski resorts now use the seal of approval 'Verified Length of Runs' in order to demonstrate that they can actually compete with the largest ski areas in the Alps in terms of size.
